Q3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
If its an American based company why is Lions Gate appropriate for our UK film?
Our film is clearly British within the British actors, British accents, and filming of the film within Britain. However we still feel Lions Gate is appropriate to produce and distribute our film due to the nature of their distribution, global focus and typical genres the movies they deal with contain. One film in particular gave us confidence that Lions Gate's production and distribution was appropriate for our film.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is a 2011 British romantic comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt, Kristin Scott Thomas and Amr Waked. It is based on the 2007 novel of the Paul Torday, and a screenplay by Simon Beaufoy.
Distributed by: Lions Gate and CBS films.
Although Salmon Fishing in the Yemen is not a relatable genre, its success gives us confidence that a British film such as our own and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen are appropriate to be both produced and distributed by Lions Gate.
The film received generally positive reviews upon its release and earned $34,564,651 in revenue worldwide
As of June 2012, the film has grossed $9,047,981 in the United States, and $25,516,670 in other territories.

Marketing:
How would we market our film to ensure it effectively reaches our target audience? Our main focus within marketing would be our genre and gritty, controversial topics in order to attract our target audience. We will also focus on our British nature of the film, in order to appeal to the UK audience our film will be distributed to.
We will do this using a mixture of platforms such as Poster campaigns, Adverts and online marketing:
WEB 2.0
Our own website featuring our trailer (also available on YouTube), links to our social network pages such as Facebook, Twitter and information about our film allows interactivity of the audience, as they can comment and become involved with the film.
Our trailer would give our audience a visual representation of our film, probing into the genre and topics it contains.
Using the Web 2.0 allows accessible short form content within a non-linear fashion, allowing our target international audience of adults to become involved with our film whenever they want, fitting around busy lifestyles. The viral potential of the Internet means it doesn't just focus on our UK audience, but can be reached by our international audience.
Release:
Due to our global distribution aim, and Lions gates international distribution nature, we intend for our film to be exhibited on numerous platforms, in order for it to reach a wide audience.

Our film would be exhibited across a saturation of different cinema multiplexes, worldwide.

The hunger Games:
The film was released on an international scale, being released in France and the US in March 2013 in both conventional theatres and digital IMAX theatres, and released to Japan in September.
We would therefore do a worldwide release focusing particularly in the UK and US due to the nature of our film and target audience of people interested in the themes and genre which have been previously explained to be found in the US.

In terms of when it would be released, we would want to choose an accessible time for our target audience. Due to our mature audience we would want to choose a time that suits the busy working lifestyle. For this reason we would have a long running time of around 6-8 weeks. We would want to distribute our film during term time because this instantly directs the viewings to a mature audience, as the holiday period is a time considered for teenagers and young people to attend the cinema, being busy at school during term time. Offering a mature break from work for our adult audience.
This release plan is influenced by Lions Gate's film they distributed 'I am soldier' which is a 15. This certificate identifies the same mature target audience as our own. Their release date in the UK was March 17th 2014, therefore being appropriate four our film to be released around the same time; March. Just as Salmon Fishing in Yemen does, I feel we should begin our distribution in the UK then distribute abroad in places such as the US.
