Animatic Reflections

Our/ Student Reflections:

After completing our animatic, there were a few things that became clear. The strengths and weaknesses of our opening sequence were emphasised, which left room for us to make some improvements:
  1. We needed more shots. Although we intended for a slow pace of the opening sequence, it became clear there wasn't enough content, and in order to keep the audience interested we needed more things to occur.
  2. We needed to consider continuity. Although we had the main things that would occur within the sequence, we needed to consider shots like the women reaching for things in order to make sure we kept continuity.
  3. Dialogue. Our opening sequence contained a lot of long pauses, and although this built suspense we need to re-consider our dialogue in order to keep the interaction between the characters consistent.

Teacher Reflections:

When we presented our opening animatic sequence to our teachers we received the following feedback:
  1. Between our changing shots, it became clear we were breaking the 180 degree rule. In order to correct this, we have to focus on staying on the same side of our characters/ objects we are focusing on the shots. Or finding a way for the camera to move around when we wanted to change the side.
  2. Some of the terminology we sued to describe what would happen in our shots was wrong. Where we would say 'pan', would actually be more of an arc or crab. This emphasised our need to focus on shot types and defining exactly what movement the camera would make.
  3. Our dialogue was weak, the relationship between the two characters needed to be established more in order for their conversation to appear more 'normal'. Our current dialogue just appeared to be a sequence of statements, with the true definition of what they meant. We needed more establishment than mystery we already had.
